Construction is complete on the new Airdrie interchange, a project that will significantly improve traffic flow and safety by reducing congestion in and around Airdrie. The new interchange will help residents and commuters move faster and more safely through the area.
Lafarge Precast partnered with EllisDon to fabricate 55 NU girders, ranging in length from 35M to 52M, for the project. The new interchange is located at the south end of Airdrie, with 40th Avenue crossing over Highway 2. Additionally, three other new bridges were constructed over the CP Rail overpass, Main Street, and Nose Creek. By collaborating closely with our partners, we were able to fabricate and deliver the NU girders on time and within budget.
The use of precast concrete provides several key advantages:
- Speed of Construction: Precast girders are fabricated in advance, allowing for faster installation. The finished road surface is applied directly to the precast, minimizing on-site work.
- Quality Control: Strict quality measures ensure that all components fit as designed, with openings precisely located for accurate and efficient installation.
- Durability and Sustainability: The precast elements are designed with a 75-year lifespan, ensuring long-term durability and contributing to a more sustainable infrastructure solution.
Lafarge Precast is proud to play a part in delivering this vital project, which will enhance the infrastructure in Airdrie for years to come.
