Lafarge Precast was one of many companies that contributed to the success of this project, which features an automated, five-story, 2.9-million-square-foot state-of-the-art warehouse sortation facility, known as Amazon YEG2 Slingshot, located in Acheson’s Highland Business Park.
To meet Amazon’s specific needs, this 269,419 sq. m. (2.9 million sq. ft.) multi-level logistics facility – equipped with advanced robotics and material handling technology – was fast-tracked and completed in just 16 months. The structural design includes a steel frame with composite slabs on deck, insulated precast exterior walls, metal panels, and a thermoplastic polyolefin roof. The site itself covers 66 acres and features 1,250 car parking stalls, 275 tractor trailer stalls, and multiple out-parcel buildings.
The insulated precast concrete wall panels provide both a functional and aesthetically pleasing exterior building envelope system. These panels feature insulated concrete wythes with a continuous thermal layer, offering excellent energy efficiency and structural integrity. Designed for both load-bearing and non-load-bearing applications, the panels are available in various widths, lengths, thicknesses, and exterior finishes, making them versatile for different project needs.
The use of standard modular panels contributed to the speed and cost-effectiveness of the build, while custom panels were designed for specialized applications.
