Affordable housing is a critical need in Canada, and Lafarge is proud to partner with Hill Plain Construction through CMHC’s Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) to deliver 37 homes for the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation in Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta. This project, supported by the Government of Canada and CMHC, aims to address the housing crisis in the community.
Lafarge used precast concrete to create durable, energy-efficient homes with 5 bedrooms and 2½ bathrooms. The homes feature insulated precast wall panels, Hollowcore slabs on the main floor, and a conventional wood truss roof. They are designed for high energy efficiency, with R30 insulated walls, R60 in the attic, and R25 in the floor.
Precasting the components in advance allowed for a fast construction schedule, reducing overall onsite time by 40-50%. Each precast home was fabricated in one day within our controlled facitlity and installed within 2 days onsite. The entire project of 37 homes from start to occupancy took approximately 200 working days – averaging one home completed every 5.5 days.
Lafarge Precast has completed its work, and the homes are now being finalized and turned over to occupants by Hill Plain Construction. This project not only provides housing but also supports the well-being of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation.
Key Benefits of Precast in Housing:
