Lafarge Congratulates CWP Construction LTD on Successful Installation of Precast Replacement Girder
Lafarge would like to extend our congratulations to CWP Construction LTD for the successful installation of the precast replacement girder on Hospital Street in Fort McMurray. This bridge, located in a high-traffic area, experienced damage from accidents in 2013 and again in 2021, necessitating the replacement of the girder.
While bridges are designed for durability, such damage can compromise safety, making maintenance essential. The original precast girders were installed in 1982 and served for over 40 years before the exterior girder was damaged beyond repair.
The project presented a significant challenge: the original forms for the girder no longer existed, and over the decades, other sections had been updated with newer sections and designs. However, Lafarge rose to the occasion, successfully creating a custom form to replicate the old girder section. The new girder measured 1.625m x 1.17m x 26m (WxHxL) and weighed approximately 62,000 kg after casting.
Throughout the project, we ensured critical quality control and delivered the efficiency and effectiveness we promise to all our customers and stakeholders. Congratulations once again to CWP Construction LTD for their outstanding work!
