Lafarge’s extensive expertise in precast industrial projects of all scales proved invaluable when brought in as a subject matter expert by Worley Energy to provide a custom precast solution for the supply and installation of a large lift station vault at the Trans Mountain Edmonton terminal industrial site. The vault, measuring 22 feet by 14 feet and 20 feet in depth, included several interior weir walls.
The original cast-in-place option raised significant concerns for the construction schedule, particularly during the winter months. Casting the vault structure on-site would have required a prolonged open excavation, extensive heating and hoarding, and elevated safety concerns that would demand constant monitoring.
Lafarge’s proposed precast solution was accepted, allowing the vault components to be cast off-site during the winter. The assembly and installation of the precast components were completed in less than a week, minimizing the original concerns and significantly accelerating the project timeline.
Our involvement underscores the value of early design input, helping to streamline the construction process while ensuring that all elements were delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standards.
